WHAT'S HAPPENING AT..
14/1/2022 Our Theme for 2022...On Monday, January 3rd 2022, Team Laleo spent some quality time together at Lukenya Getaway reflecting on the coming calendar year. We sought to reflect on progress, coach each other on how to implement our goals, and get to know each other better. The Bible verse that we focused on for our devotion that morning came from Romans 11:36, which helped us to center our focus on Christ, not only in our personal lives, but also in all that we seek to do at Laleo. "For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen." - ESV A big part of our group discussion was spent going deeper on what it practically means for Christ to be at the center of our worldview, probing questions such as:
As Prov 1:7 guides us "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge" which enlightens us on the discipleship aspect of education. We came away acknowledging that an education devoid of God's goodness, wisdom, and power is abstract, boring, and meaningless - and one that is more likely to puff us up with knowledge, rather than point us to the wonder, awe and amazement of our God. Just have a look at Job 38 for instance. We came away resolving to grow in God-centeredness at a personal and team level, in our resources, and in our community. Theme: 2022 is the year of: God-centeredness. This academic year, Laleo is collaborating with the STEM Impact Center Kenya to provide a space for learners to explore science, technologies, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through LEGO ® MINDSTORMS ®. Every Thursday, as part of our extra-curricular activities, the children get to tinker with robotics and coding across all our age groups to spur their creativity and to learn through play. For more than 40 years LEGO ® has been working with teachers and educational specialists to deliver playful learning experiences that bring subjects to life in the classroom and make learning fun and impactful (learn more about LEGO® Education). It has been interesting observing the excitement with which the children tackle the projects assigned during each session. Over a period of about two hours, they work on assembling different creations using LEGO® and learn how to bring them to life through coding. Our kindergartners are not left out of the fun as they get to explore and build foundational skills with the LEGO® and DUPLO® bricks.
While the children get to develop and pursue their different interests, the focus of the activity is also to develop teamwork and collaboration, an essential competency for their future. We look forward to a semester of fun and learning! 11/8/2021 0 Comments A New School Year!We started our new school year at Laleo this week after a long and well deserved summer break. (The weather in and around Nairobi was more on the wintry side though, perhaps why our learners and their families have been excited to be reunited among warm and familiar friends!). We continue to welcome new families to our growing community. Above: Learners from Grades 2 & 3Two things that we are most excited about for the coming semester are:
We look forward to an exciting year ahead as we pray for continued safety and peace in our nation. 7/7/2021 Laleo's Open Day - July 2021Welcome one, welcome all!

A Co-op is a group of families (usually homeschooling) that come together for cooperative learning activities - these can include sports, public speaking, field trips, and so on.
At Laleo, we incorporate Co-op days into our community of learning as part of our hybrid approach to education. Usually held on Thursdays, parents and children gather together for various pre-planned activities that are designed to build competencies such as teamwork, inter-personal skills, collaborative learning, contextual learning, and communication skills. For parents, Co-op days provide a great opportunity to meet, interact, and have fun with other parents of Laleo while actively participating in their children’s learning. Given the influential role that parents can have in the learning of their children, their participation in our Co-op days greatly motivates their children’s desire to learn, and to love learning. It also allows for greater conversation at home and a continuation of learning within the home context. Working together with our teachers, the Co-op days allow for close interaction between parents and teachers and enhances understanding about the children’s strengths and abilities. This awareness strengthens parents’ and teachers’ ability to personalize children’s learning in different learning contexts. Our Co-op days include children who attend Laleo, as well as their families but are also open to a limited number of other home educators who have become part of our community. We encourage children of different ages to participate in the Co-op day activities together, which fosters self-awareness as well as appreciation and sensitivity to the needs and gifts of all children, regardless of age. Our children enjoy our Co-op days greatly and look forward to them every week! Though the day started off grey, the weather quickly changed and we had nice bright and sunny day which was great for the children who came as they quickly settled into games and activities around the school. Over the course of the morning, parents and children toured Laleo's classrooms and facilities as families paces themselves through each station, discussing in depth about learning delivery with the teachers and activity instructors. Laleo's stated mission is "to collaborate with parents in the education and discipleship of their children". This represents our belief that Christian parents are called to bring up their children in the training and instruction of the Lord (as in Ephesians 6:4). As such, our model is designed in such a way that parents and teachers work together closely for learning delivery. Parents were able to interact with our learning spaces which are designed to support intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and physical nourishment that will help them grow in their knowledge of and love for God and the world He created. The main learning spaces featured were: Logic - Our early learners room that also focuses on language instruction and practical math lessons through carefully selected books, games, manipulatives, rhythm and movement. Our World - A classroom geared towards our older learners and which presents science, history, geography, and civics from a creation perspective. The Arts - A multipurpose space that is oriented towards music and art activities where learners can develop different artistic expressions with the help of our specialized instructors. The Lab - Our hands-on learning and deep-dive exploration room supporting kitchen and cooking adventure, general experiments, and nature study. Play Area - A fun outdoor space where our children will participate in a mix of structured and unstructured play activities. More in our photo gallery below. (If you didn't get a chance to attend the Open House or are interested in visiting us, we are happy to arrange a tour of our space. Please give us a call to make an appointment at a time of your convenience). 14/12/2019 Have you heard about Laleo?Laleo is a community of learning centered around Faith, Family, and Fun.
