Frequently Asked Questions
What is a micro-school?
Micro-schools are typically defined as organizations with less than 150 students which offer small class sizes and a reduced school schedule. Hands-on learning is also a key component, and often various grade levels work and learn together. The smaller learning environment allows for more stable social relationships and greater personalization in the learning process.
HOW ARE CLASSES AT LALEO ORGANIZED?
Students will receive classroom-based instruction from our trained teachers on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 8:45am - 1:15pm. We also offer optional extra-curricular activities from 2:00pm - 3:00pm, and on Thursdays. These are outlined on our Community Resources page. On days when classes don't meet students work on home-based assignments under the tutelage of a parent or other adult.
WHAT GRADES DOES LALEO OFFER?
Laleo offers classes for Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Grades 1 to 5 (ages 3 - 11). The school will continue to grow organically, increasing in grade levels as our children grow. Our student-teacher ratio is 15:1 (we cap our classes at 15 students).
WHAT DOES PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT LOOK LIKE AT LALEO?
Parents at Laleo play a vital role in their child's education as our program combines traditional classroom education with one-on-one instruction in the home. We view parental involvement as integral to the success of our program because it is a strong indicator of long-term academic success. In addition, we will ask our parents to complete a few volunteer hours per semester (helping out with various tasks) which also enables them to play an active role as educators.
