Curriculum at Laleo
Laleo uses a Biblical Worldview Curriculum, which helps children develop their knowledge of God as they learn within the context of different academic subjects. Biblical values and character development will be taught using “living books”. This approach is based on the philosophy of education espoused by Charlotte Mason who advocated for children to be given a wide buffet of learning experiences and a generous curriculum of ideas and knowledge.
Hybrid Micro-schoolLaleo pairs classroom-based learning with home-based education. Classroom hours run from 8:45am to 1:00pm Monday to Wednesday. Thursdays are co-op days for non-classroom based learning, field trips, and extra-curricular activities. Fridays are used for at home learning.
As a micro-school, Laleo will limit class sizes to a maximum of 15 learners to offer personalized education through a reworked classroom concept. |
Personalized Learning
We believe that every child is unique, having individual learning preferences, needs, and interests. We also believe that parents are best placed to recognize these attributes in their children and can therefore play a significant role to improve learning outcomes.
We therefore promote high parental participation in education delivery to personalize learning for our children by pairing classroom learning with home-based education. |
Parental Volunteering
Hybrid schooling parents play a vital role in their child's education. We view parental involvement as integral to the success of our program because it is one of the strongest indicators for long-term academic success.
We ask that Laleo parents/guardians complete a few volunteer hours annually (helping out with various tasks) which enables them to play an active role as educators. |
School Year
Laleo's curriculum is based on the American system of education, contextualized within our local Kenyan context. Our school year consists of two semesters per calendar year, each having a short mid-break. Each semester is eighteen weeks long - with the full academic year being thirty-six weeks.
